The First Time

The 1910 Challenge from RAPHA on Vimeo.

You thought the winter is tough?

“They were riding off and on goat tracks over the top. Obviously they were getting off. Otherwise they were hammering away pushing on the pedals at an extraordinary gearing, roughly 44 x 24.”

“He started out at 3:30 in the morning with 12 pork chops in his bag and they would stop at least twice during the stage for a proper meal and the standard meal was a whole chicken each. They seemed to eat just meat.”

“We’ve been using our bottom gear every climb all the way and they didn’t have a bottom gear they were pretty much in top gear all the way.”

“Degrange's dream was that there would be just one finisher to the tour, just one man left standing. So, he was very disappointed when this stage finished in a sprint.”

“This stage was run twelve times in all until they decided it was just too hard.”

I posted this in July and always find myself referring friends back to the video. Such a remarkable feat.
